X Factor special blog: Time to toughen up!
By Talking Tara
Live show number 1. The competition’s ON!!! Not wanting to overload you with all of my thoughts I’ll settle for my three main comments about the weekend’s shows. Firstly the Danyl incident, secondly the controversial twins John and Edward and thirdly, the Alexandra Burke ‘was she wasn’t she’ miming matter.
Let’s start with Danyl. Danni’s comments were no doubt offensive but were they that much worse than discussing Kandy Rain’s stripper/pole dancing past? Danni and Cheryl both brought up the subject and criticised their outfits, but the audience and public didn’t protest. However, the chip made at the sweeter more media friendly Danyl seemed to have rocked the public! Danyl declaring to a tabloid “I wouldn’t rule out someone just because of their gender” is inevitably going to turn into a talking point. This is the media obsessed X Factor, where each contestants’ history is dug up, analysed and scrutinised. A frank sexual orientation admission to the papers is not exempt from gossip, so Danni’s comment is hardly the snipe of the century. Leave her alone because the contestants better develop thicker skins if they are to survive in the music industry.
Talking of thick skinned takes me to my second point – the twins. Cherly’s ‘you can’t sing – FACT’ comment was harsh but close to the truth. In my unprofessional but personally highly rated opinion…they can’t! But bad singing + fun choreography, it appears = entertainment! How much longer they’ll stay in for I don’t know but for as long as they do, it appears that Simon’s snipes will come thick and fast. And the fact that Louis loves the twins just adds to the humour value. As a member of the X Factor voting public where my opinion does count, it’s worth them staying in just for that!
Thirdly and finally. Alexandra, Alexandra, our number 2 golden girl (after Leona of course). Why get yourself into a miming controversy? You came from X Factor, singing live on stage, week after week, putting in tremendous effort and energy and clearly pulling it off enough to win us all over. So why mime? It was as if you were saying that you’re better than the 12 finalists – that you’re better than that now. Don’t do a Britney on us. Please. Look at your successors, Rachel and Jamie, singing and dancing with great energy and putting on well deserved shows and take a leaf out of their book. Alexandra, please, don’t forget where you came from.
So, with the elimination of Kandy Rain, the competition is hotting up and so is the drama. And where would X Factor be without that! I wonder who will say what, controversial comment next week. Only 6 days to wait.
sys!
